Week4 Machine thinking

AI, what we called  Artificial intelligence,   has been studied since the last century. We can find AI in early science fiction movies, such as  Ex Machina,  Blade Runner 2049,  The  Terminator,  The Matrix ... And  People have shown their imagination of the future development of artificial intelligence in these films. However, we can find that the artificial intelligence in these films is endowed with consciousness and the ability of self think. In   AI Debate: How far can the AI revolution go?   Dr Eugene Izhikevich mentioned that the previous machine needed human intervention in advance to make the machine run. Now people are committed to studying the brain, and then creating a brain for the machine through algorithms so that it can operate on its own intelligently. Just like Apple Siri, Autonomous vehicles( Self-driving cars ), home automation ...Also, Dr Eugene mentions "conscious" and propose if a machine has consciousness, can w...

Week3 Machines and Art

图片
I want to extend the first week's idea. Some artworks at present are rooted from traditional art.    Nude Descending a Staircase , No. 2 (Duchamp, 1912) The above painting by Duchamp: The motion law is similar to that of the later animation. Look into some video artists(who like to use traditional forms for artistic projection creation, but also try to add new technologies or more immersive experiences to expand their artistic expression ) : Bill viola , Garry Hill When we look back to the last century, we can find artworks continue from traditional painting to the use of equipment(machine), to the mixed-use of various equipment, and then to the mixed-use of tradition and equipment(machine). The changes in the presentation of various works of art also represent the upgrading of technology.  So I really agree with" people can do the things because the technic(machine) can do these things". And when we look into today's artworks, w e can find that artists pay mor...

Week 2 Algorithm, life, art and design

图片
This week we talk about algorithms, data, life and art. Most of the discussions in the class are about the application of algorithms in works of art, the role of artificial intelligence in life. Except for the above things, what pop out of my mind  initially  is the word "NFT". NFT  ( "non-fungible token":   a way of owning the original digital image . )  is   a unit of data stored on a digital ledger, they can be sold and traded. As we know, d igital things are not like traditional works, t hey are not printed like traditional works, which means  digital files can be easily and endlessly duplicated. But with NFTs, these digital works can be sold under real name and copyright.  Extend reading: Explanation of NFT The most significant example: Beeple's  Everyday: The First 5000 Days  (2021) COURTESY CHRISTIE’S IMAGES LTD. 2021 These digital artworks by digital artist,Beeple,  sold for $69 million  in March of 2021. Week 1- discussion on computational art and life

Week1 session: How software(technology) choreographs life: I totally agree with the sentence in the  A fish can’t judge the water.  There's a sentence that said,   Software produces culture at the same time as it is produced by culture. It is shaped through and locked into economic models of production and distribution. This kind of situation can be significantly seen in the history of “future cinema” or “expanded cinema” or we can call it “visual projection” “projection mapping” today. It’s all start from the first film which appeared in 1895 (by the Lumiere brothers). And at that period, v arious kinds of projectors, cameras came out, filmmakers and artists began to produce things by using those different types of equipment.  And during that time, people were keen to record scenes of daily life, and project their works on a specific screen(what we called film ). Starting from the appearance of commercially made television and series research on transistors, devices...
